Saturday afternoon, eve of Christmas eve. Quiet and relaxing day, woke up to the sound of the trash collector truck tudging through highfield road at 7.15am, jumped up because our bin was not yet put out infront of the fence. I dashed out of my room and down the stairs, still quite groggy, and wheeled the bin out. Just in time! Thought i caught a smile from the truck driver, and then a short while later our bin was emptied. Yay:) They usually come on monday mornings.. but i guess because of the christmas holidays that's why they're doing it today.
Hehe.. think the cold here is getting into my bones.. my knees ache a bit.. (got arithritis!) and i feel so sleepy and tired. Slept all the way till 10! Snoozed my alarm which was set at 8am till about 9... then continued the cycle of sleeping, dreaming and waking till 10! Sigh.. but im glad of the restful night.. am currently down with a bit of cold.. hopefully it'll stay as "a bit".. and not be aggravated!
Weather in Nottingham has been Bbrrrrrr COLD! it's really really cold! Im living in a perpetual fridge now.. the past 3 days have been so foggy... i kept wanting to rub my eyes and clear the mist in front of me! But today it's cleared a bit.. so thankful! But the fog's been an experience in itself... haha luckily it's not haze. Heard that many flights were delayed and cancelled due to the fog though!! hope my fren who's gg home today wont get caught in such a delay!
Tomorrow is christmas eve. Will be attempting to make my 1st cheesemake with adel and cath. :) So exciting! I've never been much of a baking person... dunno why there just isnt the motivation and interest there. But im really looking forward to tomorrow! It's gonna be a formal dinner at frens' house in Beeston, and there's gonna be starters, main course and dessert. Roast is on the menu. Yumm. Never ever had such traditional english feasts back in Singapore, tis my 1st time. Got to take lots of photos, for this is likely to be my 1st and last time spending christmas with this bunch of friends...
But amidst all this celebration, mustn't forgot the true meaning of Christmas...
A fren from Boston is coming to the UK! He'll be coming up to Nottingham for a day or two's visit.. how nice! It's always so exciting to have frens coming up to visit... only dampening thing is that it'll be in the midst of my preparing for exams. Hopefully everything will turn out ok and we'll have fun.
These days i've been thinking again about my eventual return to Singapore. I'm starting to get very comfortable with life here, with an international student identity, with my own circle of frens and social network, knowing my role, my goals etc. When i go home though, it's gonna be quite a drastic change of my way of life. Not sure if im gonna enjoy it.. but i dont think i would want any other outcome.. i still hold on to the idea that home is where i eventually want to settle down in :) It's a phase of life, this 4 years abroad.. then i shall join my comrades in slogging, contributing to the small nation, watch it develop and grow haha.
Here's wishing you a Merry Christmas, to one and all! And may the New Year continue to bring you hope, love, joy and peace :)
